The Yoast SEO plugin sometimes gives wildly inaccurate analysis. On the linked page, for example, it insists that my focus key phrase (Winchester Mystery House Halloween) appears 47 times (up from 44 and 45 as I have tried to reduce the number of occurrences).

However, it when I click to highlight the phrase’s appearance in the text, only a few examples show. If you do a search for the phrase on the page as it displays to site visitors, it shows up six times (seven if you count the article’s title showing up in “Recent Posts”).

Also, the SEO analysis insists that the focus key phrase appears in only four of sixteen photographs, even though I literally copies the text from the plugin’s “Focus keyphrase” window and pasted it into alt text for several more of the photos.

Currently, the SEO score for this page is “needs improvement” even though, as far as my eye can see, things are actually pretty much the way they should be.

Our plugin analyzes the default WordPress content areas. If the analysis does not pick up all of your information, you are likely adding content outside of the default editor. Some plugins and themes, like page builders or visual composers, do not share their content with our analysis feature or share incomplete or inaccurate content.

Are you using a page builder or visual composer?

I am not using a page builder or a visual composer. I am using Classic Editor, if that makes any difference.

I am also using the WordPress Review plugin, which Yoast does not pick up, but I already knew that.

The problem is not that Yoast is missing examples of the focus key phrase; it’s that Yoast is finding examples that do not exist: 47 on page that actually contains only five instances.

It’s also possible that Yoast is failing to pick up image alt attributes from photos that are part of a WordPress gallery of images. Currently, Yoast says only 4 out of 16 images contain the focus key phrase. There is one feature image and three images embedded in the text, with a gallery of 12 more images at the bottom, so that math works out for that assumption.

That still doesn’t explain the focus key phrase being found “47” times.

If you are not using a page builder and receiving an inaccurate result in the SEO analysis, this could also be caused by a plugin or theme conflict infering with the plugin. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:

    1. Check for conflicts.
    2. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.
