Incomplete page

    Can someone help me?
    I have an existing web site and I want to change to WordPress for the site content and default page. My plan was to install WordPress, get the content to where I need it, and then switch from the current index.html to index.php for WordPress.

    I’ve installed WordPress in the root directory but renamed index.php to index2.php so WordPress won’t show until I’m ready.

    But when I bring up index2.php the default template displays but where the postings would normally be there is an Error 404.

    Is`there a better way to accomplish the cutover than what I described and if so, how?
