Incomplete/Unsuccessful UpdraftPlus Backups

Try going in to your site via ftp/file manager and look for a folder in wp-content called mu-plugins

I didn’t find the Bluehost Plugin under “mu-plugins”, however, I did find it under “plugins” (at least, I think it’s the one you are asking for). Below is the Dropbox link with the file (“bluehost-wordpress-plugin.php”). Please note, also in this Dropbox folder is a screenshot of the File Manager that shows the location of the plugin file.

Apologies, can you send us a copy of the autoptimize plugin?

I found several “Autoptimize” files listed via my File Manager. I hope I downloaded the one you wanted. Let me know if it’s one of the other ones (I provided screenshots). Below are links to access the file/images in my Dropbox account:

@glassman_2015 – I tested autooptimize and there was no conflict. Therefore the issue is definitely with the blue host plugin. I have contacted bluehost support and they advise deactivating the plugin as all it does is provide a “coming soon” page: https://snipboard.io/1f0IAe.jpg

@vupdraft – Thank you for running the test to confirm that there is a performance conflict between the Bluehost and UpdraftPlus plugins. Bluehost support’s answer, however, is only partially correct. That plugin also allows the user to set up a staging environment where they can make changes to their website without it affecting the live site. Then, when the changes are complete, the live site can be updated all at once. For me, this was very helpful during the past year as I completely redesigned my website with the Divi theme. During that period, the UpdraftPlus plugin was working fine. It wasn’t until the beginning of July 2023 when the UpdraftPlus plugin stopped working properly. So it seems to me, either the UpdraftPlus plugin or the Bluehost plugin must have had an update sometime during that period to make the two incompatible.

On my site I will deactivate the Bluehost Plugin for now, since I am not using the staging environment at the moment. However, that does not seem to fix the overall problem. I’m sure others who are currently using the Bluehost and UpdraftPlus plugins together are experiencing this same issue.

Could you do a backup of your plugins (with bluehost disabled) and upload it to something like We Transfer. I am having real trouble in obtaining a copy from Bluehost. Once we can identify the conflict, if there is anything that we can do from our side we would want to provide a fix so you can use both again without issues.

re. autoptimize; what might be happening is that if the AO cache (which contains the optimized CSS/ JS/ …) is very big (which depends on configuration & on the JS/ CSS added by theme and the collection of plugins), this might somehow cause the backup process to fail?

if so, my 2c; maybe the autoptimize cache could/ should be excluded from being backed up?

You could try this. It couldn’t hurt to rule it out. I suspect that because the backup times out in the plugins portion of the backup that it’s related to a plugin. As the backup works without the bluehost plugin activated I strongly suspect the bluehost plugin.
