The update from 1.5 to 2.0 is stopped by inconsistent file permissions. Any suggestions as to which file it might be?

    Hi RobinKMullins,

Can you please send a screenshot of your issue.

I would send you the screenshot but I don’t see a way to attach it to this ticket.

The plugin is indicating it needs an update. After initiating the update this message is displayed: “Update Failed: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.”

    Thank you for your help.

I see. No need to attach the screenshot now. I understand where the problem is.

You need to have specific file permissions on your hosting server. So, basically it is not particular to SCF7 only, any other plugins which will need to read or write certain PHP files will not update and will show the same error.

You should have permissions given like this:

And then update the plugin, and it will just be fine.

The permissions appear to be correct. Howdever, I noticed the owner is shown as “Root” whereas all the other plugins (which are not having upgrade problems) show the owner as
Apache. Could this be the problem. Instead of “Root” should the owner be “Apache”?

Not sure, can you please let me know where do you show Owner? Is it in WP Backend or somewhere else?
