    Hi Devon,

I’m trying to get my home page images to form into a nice grid like the one on your prototype, but they seem to be different depths (widths appear the same). Should they all adopt the same depth automatically (i.e., crop themselves–that was my impression of what would happen), or do I need to make sure every image I upload to use as a featured image is exactly the same size?

    Thanks.

PS: As featured images, I’m using cropped versions of work that appears in each portfolio page–so if there’s some kind of blanket size restriction I can apply, I’d want to make sure it only applies to the home page images and not the thumbnails displayed in the portfolio pages.

You should upload the largest size images you have. WordPress will auto-crop them.

If you’re using images that were uploaded before the theme was installed, you’ll need to regenerate the thumbnails as mentioned in the FAQ:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

If your images don’t resize after running that plugin, there might be an issue with your server environment (specifically the PHP ImageMagick library).

A much-belated thanks, Devon–I guess my images just weren’t large enough. In any case, that did solve it.

I ran into this problem as well, although for me the problem was not fixed by regenerating the thumbnails.

Turns out it was because the php-gd library was not installed, so the thumbnails were not getting generated either on upload, or on regerate thumbnails. Oddly enough through, neither one actually gives an error, it all appears to be successful.

I really appreciate how your theme warns for other things that need to be addressed, like setting the max posts to 9, needing to have the Options plugin installed, etc – if possible, it might make sense to have a check for the php-gd plugin being installed.

    Thanks for the great Theme!

Yeah, it would make sense for the regenerate-thumbnails plugin to check for that. I’ll suggest it to the plugin author.
