• Hi there! Loving the plugin, been using it for many years. It has now come to my attention that the distances that are displayed on the left of the map are not accurate.

Checked it on 2 Macs, sitting next to eachother ( so exact same geographical distance ), on one of them, the distance to Den Bosch from the main location is displayed as 2.1 KM, on the other it is displayed as 9.9. Wile in reality, the distance from the main location( Waalre ) to Den Bosch is 40 KM.

We are using the LiteSpeed Cache plugin, are there any known issues with that?
I have emptied the cache, no different result.

Is there anything I can do to have the wpsl-distance display accurate distances?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi there, thanks for reaching out.

I understand you are not allowing geolocation by default. And maybe your intention was to set “Waalre” as the default start point in the plugin settings, but the default start point I am getting is somewhere in “‘s-Hertogenbosch” (see screenshot).

So when I search for “Den Bosch”, the distance of the first result (Vink Tandtechniek Den Bosch) is 2.4km away, which is consistent in my opinion.

Could you please double check the start point in the plugin settings?

As for the LiteSpeed cache plugin, that shouldn’t be affecting the results.

Please let us know what you find out.

    Hi, @farroyob
Location Waalre is set as the default start point in the settings of the plugin. I found something strange though.

When you look for a specific location using the searchfield, the distance is different from what you see when you browse through all the locations. When looking specifically for Den Bosch, it displays 2.4 km. When I leave the search field blank and browse all the locations, the distance for the same location is displayed as 36.3km.

    Hi again,

Well, this is how it works, let’s see if this makes sense. If the search box is empty (when the map loads) then the reference point it is taking for calculating distances is your predefined start point (Waalre). Taking a look in Google Maps, it appears that the distance from Waalre to Den Bosch is in the 35-40km range, so the results of the first listing when the page loads is accurate.

But then, when you perform a search, the distances are calculated based on that particular search, so if you search for “Den Bosch”, then the distance to the “Vink Tandtechniek Den Bosch” store is about 2.5km, because that is approximately the distance between that store and what Google Maps considers to be the center of the population “Den Bosch”.

    Any thoughts?
