I’ve recently installed (Jan) WP 1.5 and have been tweaking and learning as I go to make my WP site my own (transitionpete.org). The trouble is, I really have no real coding experience and lack the understanding of PHP to figure out WHY THE MONTHLY ARCHIVE LINKS AND CATEGORIES LINKS DO NOT WORK.

If I have posts from January (or older), they ought to show in a results/query list when I click on the appropriate month’s link, correct? As with the Categories links, I should be able to click a category link and the resulting list should be all posts tagged with that specific catergory, correct?

Clicking on January or earlier results in the URL indicating a link to “?m=200601”, but the post results are as if I never made a query — it still shows the latest posts I’ve made in Feb. It does not result in a list of posts from January only, it shows all posts.

Same goes for the category links. When I click, I see the URL make like it’s going to pull correct results (“?cat=n” where n is whatever the category ID is), however, still a full list of ALL posts.

I’m using the RELAXATION_3COLUMN theme with my little modifications. I have not, to my knowledge, made any tweaks to the “wp_get_archives” code.

Any ideas as to how to make the correct tweaks to get this to wrok properly? Thanks in advance!

    anyone?

Does it work if you switch to the default or classic theme?

yes, i have tried swapping out the themes (Classic and Default). Same issues.

C’mon… no one has any ideas for helping me resolve this issue?

So, I’ve noticed that when I install WP 1.5 into a WordPress directory at the root on my site, I can actually sort posts by categories, monthly archives, and make comments… in other words all things work as it should.

So what went wrong? I cannot seem to find any differences in the code that seem to matter.

I currently have my blog installed in /LIFE_BLOG at the root. The WP Admin page is pointing to the index.php file at root. That shouldn’t make a difference, should it?

    HELP!

and if you change the Admin page (both URLs) to point to where the blog actually is, then what happens?

    HandySolo,
Thanks for the suggestion. You’re talking about adjusting the URIs from the WP Admin General Options page, correct?

The current URIs I have set are:
    WP addr (URI): https://transtionpete.org/life_blog
    Blog Addr (URI): https://transitionpete.org

    ________
If I change the WP address URIs to:
    WP addr (URI): https://transtionpete.org
    Blog Addr (URI): https://transitionpete.org

… then I lose all formatting and design elements for both the WP Amin pages and my blog. Not good.

    ________
If I change the WP address URIs to:
    WP addr (URI): https://transtionpete.org/life_blog
    Blog Addr (URI): https://transitionpete.org/life_blog

… then everything works as it should! HOORAY! However, now the blog address is no longer transitionpete.org, but now is transitionpete.org/life_blog. I don’t prefer that.

    What to do next?

One option would be to reinstall (or move) your blog to your root directory of your website. Up one directory, in other words. Some good stuff here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress

Another option option would be to search for some of the “Static Front Page” posts here or in the Codex (codex.www.ads-software.com).

    HandySolo,
Thanks for the help! I have decided to manage the site by moving all the assocaited WP files and directories to the root. Not as “clean” as I’d like, but it’ll work for now.
