I have a series titled “Roger Ebert’s Great Movies” where I blog about films in Ebert’s Great Movies book. So far, I have four posts: Do the Right Thing, A Year in the Quiet Sun, Notorious, and The Godfather.

The series has been working fine for a long time. But now when on a post in this series, (example: The Godfather), the side widget that lists other posts within this series, the titles are incorrect. It displays “A Year in the Quiet Sun” for every title except Do the Right Thing.

Each of the listings that display “A Year in the Quiet Sun” has a unique (and correct) URL to the other posts, the correct title is just overwritten with “A Year in the Quiet Sun.” So, when you click on one “Quiet Sun,” it takes you to the post about “The Godfather.” When you click on a different “Quiet Sun,” it takes you to Notorious. And so forth.

Where is it pulling the post title? I’ve checked all of the posts and they seem to be titled correctly.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Also, at the end of the post, it says “Series Navigation.” I think that used to show the next (or previous) post within that series. It still says “Series Navigation,” but there is not other link.

    Hi @greentub

Do you mind trying to use this version instead? PublishPress has few issue in the 2.9.1 version, which should be fixed in the 2.9.2 version below:

Let me know if the issue persists after installing that version

    Thanks,

It’s showing I have 2.9.2 installed. Also, I have no idea how to install software from a zip file that I download. I usually update within the WordPress interface. In this case, it’s set to AutoUpdate and it shows I have 2.9.2 installed.

… IF I were to disable and/or uninstall in preparation to reinstall, will I lose my current series?

If it matters, I probably did use “Duplicate this as a draft” from A Year of the Quiet Sun as a starting point for the other posts, but the title was overwritten to the correct one. … It’s like the PublishPress plugin is picking up some “residue” from the earliest draft.

What plugin did you use to duplicate the posts?

We afraid that this issue is affected by others plugin because we cannot replicate it.

Do you mind trying deactivate it all your plugins except PublishPress Series to see if the issue persists? Let me know if the issue persists.

You can do that on your staging site so it does not altering your live site.

OK. I disabled all plugins except for PublishPress. I did it on the live site (I don’t know how to work in “staging”). Issue still persists. I even loaded it in a different browser. Same issue.

If I were to uninstall/reinstall PublishPress, would it delete all of my existing series?

    (@rizaardiyanto)

It will not delete your existing series when you reinstall the PublishPress series plugin. But I don’t think that will make any difference.

For this case, we are running out of ideas on what might cause it. Because we cannot replicate this issue, hence we cannot investigate it further.

If you found a step to reproduce the issue, let us know so we can check it further. Otherwise, you can purchase the PRO version of the plugin here: https://publishpress.com/series/ so we can troubleshoot directly from your site.

    Thank you

In the end, it seems to be some sort of corruption in the post I was choosing to duplicate. Somehow, the PublishPress plugin was getting title information, not from the blog’s title or even the blog’s URL, but the title of the post that was used as the template. Weird.

When I created a new post (not using Duplicate) and added it to the series, PublishPress displays the title correctly.* My workaround, which is a pain, is to create new posts for the problem posts (thankfully only two or three). It seems to be working OK, even though I’m copying and pasting from the original post.

*The caveat is that I used to be able to create short titles when the Series would list the posts. Example: The post title is “The Godfather – a Great Movie by Francis Ford Coppala” but in the sidebar widget “More from this Series,” it would just say “The Godfather.” This is my preference, but now it displays the whole title. Do you know how I can create the shorter titles when listing the posts within a series?
