    Hello Wordfence Community.

I’m currently facing an issue with Wordfence on my website. Instead of displaying accurate visitor details, Wordfence is showing visitor traffic as if it’s originating from my server’s IP address and country.

I’ve already consulted my hosting service, and they believe that the problem lies within Wordfence itself. Despite ensuring both my server settings and Wordfence plugin are up-to-date, the issue persists.

I’m reaching out to inquire if anyone in this community has encountered a similar problem and found a solution. Your expertise and shared experiences would be immensely valuable in resolving this matter.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

Hello @soozie10, and thanks for reaching out to us!

This could be due to an issue with your IP Detection.

To double-check that your IP detection is correct, first check the following site and take note of your IP (note that this detection can sometimes not be 100% accurate on cellular phone network connections): https://www.whatsmyip.org.

Then, head over to your site and go to Wordfence > All Options > General Wordfence Options > How does Wordfence get IPs and reference the area under that section that says Detected IPs and Your IP with this setting. Start from the top and check to see if any of the settings show that both of those show the same IP as the site above does.

If this doesn’t resolve your issue, can you send a diagnostic report to [email protected]? You can find the link at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”.

Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    Thanks,

    Mark.

    Hi Mark,

Thank you for your assistance. Options 3 and 4 are correctly detecting the IP addresses. Could you please advise on which one is best to use in my situation? I have also sent you the diagnostic report to see if it can shed some light on why the IP detection method changed on all our websites.

    Best regards,

    Soozie

Hi @soozie10 , Sorry for the delayed response, and thank you for sending the diagnostic report.

Did you start using a proxy on the sites recently? This may explain the issue.

I’d recommend using X-Real-IP  as X-Forwarded-For can be spoofed whereas X-Real-IP will always contain the actual remote peer address.

    Thanks,

    Mark.
