Incorrect work of downloads

    One problem solved, million to go.
    For some reason now downloads do exactly as if you tried to make them old-school-style: they transit you to location of a “downloadable” file. Like here, where I put an audiofile into a test download. And the old good archive download now displays old good 404 error.
    In my opinion, it is a problem not with a plugin, but with a website. And still, I think I will find more help here than in general “help” location.

    You need to force the file to download. The following post will help you:

    Regarding 404 error. Use the URL in the browser’s address bar to make sure it is a valid URL. If it is valid then use that URL in the plugin’s configuration. If you use an incorrect URL value (with a typo there somewhere) in the plugin configuration it will give a 404 error.

    Okay. I testeed some stuff, and found out that if I set a download for a file that was added to a server vis browser upload into /uploads folder, then everything works grest, and me archives download fine. However, if I put the same file with the same name into the same folder via FireZilla, then the download fails, giving a 404 error. Looking into it, I noticed a difference between files uploaded via browser and via FireZilla. It is something called “Owner/Group”. Files that were uploaded with the help of browser have “Owner/Group” ‘99175 0’, whereas files uploaded via FireZilla have it set to ‘99175 99175’. I believe that it is the root of my problems. Can you suggest how to change “Owner/Group” of a file?

    Yes, it is likely that you have some file permission issue. Your FTP software may not be applying the correct file permission after upload. Set the file permission correctly after you upload via FTP.

    I do understand that I have to set the file permission, but I have no idea how to do this. Othervise I would’ve done that a long time ago.
