Since August 2018 there is a sharp increase in crawl errors 404’s on mobile URL’s – many tags but also on the desktop a category may have 2 pages but on mobile it is only 1 page, so the second page is shown as a crawl error on mobile devices.

Can anybody help with this issue as the issue is increasing daily,

  • Where are you seeing this? In console or Google Webmaster?

Are you using any SEO plugins?

    Hello – Google Search Console

Make sure you cover any old pages not in use with 301 redirects and mark them as fixed or you will constantly get these errors until then.

If you don’t know how to write redirects use a plugin called 301 Redirect or learn to write a redirect.

Some hosting platforms have them as well. Like all my clients are hosted on WPEngine and I can simply do the redirects there. Then I’ll go back to Google and mark as fixed.

When Google indexes next time they’ll clear the errors.

Yoast premium – could it be to with Yoast plugin?

I have a screenshot which shows that there were no 404 errors until August 2018 and it is increasing – so I feel it must be a problem with an update – which I need to resolve as it will be a continuous problem.

I don’t think the answer is re-directs as it will be an ongoing problem. It relates to the number of pages within each category – on desktop no problem showing 2 pages (12 products on a page) on mobile the category has 19 products on 1 page – no page 2 – so the crawl error is trying to crawl a page 2 on the mobile and it is coming up as a 404.

Did you at one point not have pagination enabled? That’s what it sounds like. It’s looking for those items.

Yoast wouldn’t have done anything. I highly doubt it. It would be nice to see your error urls.

How do I add a .jpg to a reply

I disabled pagination as I didn’t need the tabs flying in on each side?

Use like an online print screen. I’m not familiar with all of them. I simply copy paste a screenshot, blur out private info and paste it into my DropBox and then copy link and create a link inside here. Everyone can see it but no one has access to your DropBox.

Paginating is old school. No need for it anymore and not good for SEO anyway. So I’d disable it.

What I would do is if you did disable it select every error and just mark as fixed. Let Google index in the next 4 to 5 days and review later. Give them time because their bots are lazy. If you’re that impatient resubmit after marking fixed to have them index you.

You’re right redirect is not needed on these. You just need to tell Google you fixed the issue. Now, if some of those pages are not paginated pages they’ll comeback as errors but at least you’ll know the others are okay now.

I thought I had disabled pagination – but I can’t find the option – can you point me in the right direction within the customisation – has it disappeared in the latest Woocommerce?

Most themes have it in the customization or theme settings now. I’m not sure what theme you’re using.

If you don’t have it built into your theme then you need to go to General WP Settings > Reading > Blog Pages Show At Most and put that to like 99 or 999 and that will/should show all.

It was in Storefront but where in Powerpack etc. I can’t find it now.

Oh man, I don’t use Powerpack. Anything here?
