Increase max entries in sitemap.xml files

We understand you want to upper the 1K default entry-limit. While there is no specific setting, it can be changed using a filter. You can find more information here: https://yoast.com/help/xml-sitemaps-in-the-wordpress-seo-plugin/#limit.

Jeroen, and I would put that in my functions.php file?

It would depend on your site. If you run a childtheme, you can add that to your functions.php so it stays there even when your theme gets an update (parent theme). You can also add it in a custom own plugin with only the filter active. Another option would be to install the Yoast Test Helper plugin which has a setting for it too, but the plugin would need to remain active in order to keep the number active.
