Increasing Font Size

The site is not currently online so I can’t provide a link. I created a child theme and
added

body{
 font-size: 200% 
}

It has no effect whatsoever. I need to get this font larger..like at least 12 point..so when I show it to a bunch of old folks (like myself) they won’t be automatically turned off by the site.

Please help!
