Independent seperate category…

I’ve done a quick search for this but haven’t found exactly what I’m looking for…

Basically an easy method to have a category show up independently, separate from the front page posts. For example, I click a link and I only see posts from category ‘z’ but when I goto the main index for the blog, i see just ‘x’ and ‘y’
