Index of/ Directory

This is my first time using WordPress and I’m having problems already.

My Situation:

-The webserver I’m using fits the WP requirements.
-My host uses cPanel. I’m aware that my cPanel name must be appended before the database and user name in the config.php file.
-I installed WP with no problems, and it is located in a folder in the public_html folder.

When I log in to WordPress, I am taken to the Index of/ directory. I am able to view the Dashboard when I click on index.php, but I can’t view the actual website at all. What did I miss? I’ve been trying to read through these forums and a lot of people seem to recommend something about changing an htaccess file or something. I have NO idea where this is or how to change it. Is there a setting in cPanel I need to adjust? I am so lost!
