    I can’t understand how WordPress doesn’t natively bring these indexes that speed up performance so much. Thanks to the author for this plugin.

    Why don’t they do it natively? Because so much of the WordPress installed base is on older versions of MySQL that need prefix indexing on meta_key and option_name columns. They’d need two sets of indexes.

    This whole situation would be much better if those meta_key and option_name columns used a one-byte character set like ASCII or latin1.
