individual category page / showing category on index.php

I have individual category templates for my categories 2, 5 and 17.
This works perfectly.

But I want to show the most recent post from each of these categories on my index.php.
I set up the code for that, but the posts just don’t show up. As soon as I enter another category (eg. 13) the posts are being displayed correctly.

Seems like the individual templates would prohibit displaying them on the frontpage ??

Is there a workaround for that???
