• I know it can be tedious, but for my last couple of upgrades I found a WordPress link that listed just the specific files that were altered from the previous version and I changed them individually. The path from my local computer through FTP and to my server always produces multiple errors/problems when replacing all or a large portion of the files and it is quite frustrating.

My trouble is I can never easily locate that link/information on the WordPress site even when I know there is a new upgrade available. If anyone can direct me to the location I am looking for, I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much in advance.

  • See https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Subversion and https://trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/trunk. 2.5 is revision 7567, 2.3.3 is revision 6725, as per https://trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/tags . Enter these two revision numbers into trunk’s “View changes” and you’ll get your lovely list of files.

(Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.)

    This one Milestone 2.5?

    Thank you both very much.

Do yourself a favor and consider deleting the WordPress files and uploading as per Steps 7 and 8 in Upgrading_WordPress_Extended.

    You will thank me later.

There’s just too many changes/deletions/additions to not do the upgrade using the recommended procedures.

    I completely agree.
Theres a fair few files that have been deleted too from memory(TinyMCE stuff mainly i’d assume)

Simply uploading the changed files will work for changes such as 2.5 -> 2.5.1, but other than that, theres just too many.

I didn’t want to say so. Instead, if kostuj does what I said, the diff screen is enough discouragement….

Yes, I saw some of that. My computer would not even fully load all of the changes before getting stuck, so it would not seem prudent to try that in this case. It will be a slightly new experience, but I will follow your advice. Just about all of my previously edited files are in the default theme folder, so I just hope for now that those do not need to be replaced and re-edited. Thanks again for everybody’s comments.

A number of the wp-content/themes/default files changed, so you might want to rename your default folder to say, mytheme, and then upload the 2.5 version of those files and check out some of the differences.
