    Hi there,

First thank you for having created a great theme. We have done some small adjustments to it. And right now we have our site https://delu.no/ using the pictorico theme through a child theme.

We’ve activated the jetpack infinite scroll but we’re getting a problem. We’ve set it so that there’s 26 items on the front page. And there’s currently an additional two items. When “eldre innlegg” (older posts) is clicked it loads the additional two posts. But there’s an issue with the page suddenly “jumping” back hiding the two new posts. Not sure if we need to just have more items or need to tweak some other setting.

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Nils

  • Hi,

I just found this topic. I also switched to Poctorico last weekend and after some modifications (e.g. W3 validation issues and missing translation) I’m very happy with it.

I also have the issue that the website is “jumping” after the last post line was reached when using jetpack infinite scroll. I hope there’ll be a good fix for that ??

    My page: https://www.markuswalther.org/

    Thanks a lot in advance.

We’ve activated the jetpack infinite scroll but we’re getting a problem. We’ve set it so that there’s 26 items on the front page. And there’s currently an additional two items. When “eldre innlegg” (older posts) is clicked it loads the additional two posts.

If you’re seeing the Older Posts button it means that Infinite Scroll isn’t active. With Infinite Scroll there is no button to click, you simply scroll and new posts are loaded automatically.

It looks like you have a footer text widget. When there are footer widgets present, IS automatically deactivates itself. Try removing the footer widget if you’d like to use IS.

voltshock – same thing for you. Infinite Scroll is not active on your site as you have footer widgets.

    Hi Kathryn,

I think your understanding is not completely right. IS is either automatically loading or using the button to dynamically load the next posts instead of changing the whole page like you would do it without IS. This behavior is wanted and if I disable the IS I don’t have the dynamic loading of further posts anymore.

Also, removing the footer widgets is not an option.

Since I had another theme before working properly like I would expect I think there’s something wrong with the theme. In case you have an idea which part of your theme might be the reason I’d check for it. But there’s definitely something wrong on the theme causing the problem ??

Thanks a lot for your support.

    Best regards,
    Markus

Thank you for the swift reply Kathryn. ?? I removed the text widget but saw no change. That’s when I discovered that there’s a setting that needed to be turned on for infinite scroll to work:

settings -> reading -> To infinity and beyond

I mistakenly thought it was just to activate the infinite scroll inside the jetpack plugin. This might be the issue you’re having as well voltshock.

And the infinite scroll works even though there’s a text widget in the footer actually.

    Hi nilsnh,

thank you for the hint. For me this option is not visible since the widgets are still activated. So I deactivated all Widgets, activated that option and then it worked. But as soon as I activate the Widgets again it’s jumping again.

The infinite scroll works right (I’d say) but I don’t get where the jumping is from. My previous theme didn’t have this issue ??

nilsnh – glad you’re all set.

voltshock – I’m not seeing any “jumping” on your site at the moment. Could you explain step by step what you do in order to see the jumping so I can take another look? Another alternative is recording a little screencast and uploading it so I can take a look. Thanks.

    Hi Kathryn,

go on the home page https://www.markuswalther.org/ and klick the “?ltere Beitr?ge” (load more) button to load more until you reached the end of the list (will be page 4 in the address). Then it starts jumping and you cannot reach the footer widgets anymore since it’s always jumping up again. Tested with Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer, all of them in the latest version.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Best regards,
    Markus

voltshock, I researched this and I tried to reproduce the issue you reported on a test blog, but I was unable to see the problem happen in my tests.

    Here are my testing steps:

    1. Open a Jetpack-enabled www.ads-software.com blog and install and activate the Pictorico theme v1.07
    2. Go to Jetpack > Settings and enable Infinite Scroll and Photon
    3. Go to Settings > Reading and set the “Blog pages show at most” setting to 4
    4. Go to Appearance > Customize > Widgets and add The search widget and the tag cloud widget to the “Footer Sidebar 1” area
    5. Add at least 10 posts
    6. Open the home page
    7. Click “Older Posts” until you reach the end
    8. Keep scrolling when you reach the end of the posts using a mouse scroll wheel (or a magic mouse or trackpad) to accelerate because the problem does not happen when dragging the scrollbar with the mouse

Result: Chrome 39 seems to be a little bit jumpy if you accelerate when scrolling, but posts don’t get hidden. Couldn’t see any problems at all in Firefox 34.

    Screencast: https://cloudup.com/cyTUxIod69K (Length: 2:26)

If you’d like to dig into it further, let me know what you think I need to do differently in my testing steps.

this infinite-scrolling problem with Pictorico theme v1.07 is still present (tested with latest firefox, ie and chrome). it can be reproduced when there are many posts all having a feature-image. after clicking “older posts” more than 3 times, the page starts to jump during scrolling: sometimes posts get hidden or the current viewport stays empty.

i think that’s the reason why voltshocks page https://markuswalther.org/
deactivated infinite-scrolling which is in my opinion more nicer for photography-based themes.

Thank you @hanswernerbauer for the confirmation. I thought I’m the only one having this problem.

Yes, I deactivated it since it doesn’t work well and this way it looks also nice. Nevertheless I hope the bug can be fixed ??

    Greetings,
    Markus

Hello, has this bug been fixed ? I get this issue too with jetpack.

desirelabs – could you please provide a link to your site running Pictorico so I can see the issue directly?

I had this issue in my theme, it was due to the container displaying the ajaxed posts being collapsed. Had floated elements in it. So, if you encounter that jumpy behavior, check that out…
