    Hello,

I have been involved in several WP setups. One of the first steps, after purchasing a hosting plan from a provider, is to select an web application from a list of CMS’s. WP is on that list and it is what is chosen.

Now I hear that a particular hosting company doesn’t want you to choose WP from that list even though they offer it. They say that a “manual install” of WP should be done.

Has anyone heard of this method? Thanks.

    Note:

    1. You need MySQL database access created (db name, db user, db password)

WP installer will ask for that data, it has no way to do it, it should be done by system administrator or with CPanel/Plesk/etc tools

    2. Avoid creating wp-config.php by editing sample file, automatic generation by WP installer is prefered

Thanks. I assume you are describing the manual method. But why would anyone use this method when they just need to choose the WP web app from the hosting company’s list? And why would the hosting company try to discourage the use of the easier method? If there is something wrong with the easier method, they shouldn’t offer it.

It is not a manual method, but using WordPress installer,
i dont really see any compelling reason why would anyone use _real_ manual installation.

why would anyone use this method when they just need to choose the WP web app from the hosting company’s list

    there can be different reasons.
Hosting may have their list outdated, broken or they offer older version,
they might offer broken (patched) versions.
Some hostings may not have that lists at all.
When people use VPS or dedicated servers, depending on their control panel choice (they can choose no CP at all!) there may be no list (and most likely there will be none).

Biggest difference between hosting “1-click” install and “The Famous 5-minute WordPress installation” is –
hosting installer will create database for you,
while WP built-in installer will ask for database access information from you.

    hosting installer depends on hosting.
    WP built-in installer works everywhere.
