Ins Tags

Been playing with the insert tags. According to the spec the tag can be used for either block-level or inline markup (it can behave like either a div or a span). If I wish to add a paragraph, the sematnic markup would be:
<ins datetime="1994-11-05T08:15:30-05:00">My paragraph</ins>
However WP puts paragraph tags around that. A simple problem, but I imagine a nightmare to fix. ??
