Insert featured image into sidebar widget

Hi,

Please could you help me to understand and bring about creating widget code to identify the featured image for a post, and then place that image into the sidebar.

Even better, if there is a secondary featured image, I’d love to be able to place that below the primary.

I’ll be extra pleased if the image could automatically scale to become the correct size for the sidebar column, but will still be grateful if the size needs to be specified in advance. ??
