• I just updated to 3.3.1 yesterday, and now when I highlight text in visual mode>click the insert/edit link icon>paste in a url>hit add link it simply returns me to the list of posts and the link is not inserted.
I have deactivated all plugins and manually re-installed the update using Filezilla (while deleting my wp-content folder first).
Also, when I try to update any of the plug-ins, the page goes blank and hangs (but that’s another issue I guess)
I am also using a custom theme.
    Help!

  • Can you locate the wp-options table in that backup and look for the value entered for db_version?

You already asked me to do that this morning. It says: 19470 Maybe you can read back through the discussion we’ve been having so we don’t repeat steps?

No – originally I asked to check the db_version in your current database. I have now asked you to check it in the pre-upgrade database backup. If you would rather I didn’t try to help you get to the bottom of this problem, then I have no problem with dropping out of the topic.

I’m sorry if that came off as snippy. That was not my intent. I apologize that I misunderstood your question. I was honestly just trying to suggest something to save us both time.
Ugh…it’s actually saying that there are no tables for that database. All this time I’ve been backing up databases hasn’t worked. I’m going to call my hosting company and see what can be done.
    Thank you for your help.

If you were running a version of WordPress that was a little on the old side (say 4 or more versions back), it’s never a good idea to upgrade to the latest version in a single step. We usually recommend that you upgrade in a couple of smaller steps,. The reason behind this is that you can get database (and core code) problems if you try to carry out a large upgrade in one step. Hence trying to find out what version you were running pre-upgrade.

Whilst you are waiting for your hosts to get back to you, try having a look through your server error logs to see if there’s anything in there that might provide a clue. Whatever this is, it’s buried pretty deeply. ??

There is no backup. I did it wrong. They advised that I should wait until there is another WP update and see if it fixes the problem. Otherwise, I have made a backup of the database (as of today) and I think I’ll need to start with a “new” WordPress. Do you see any other solution? Ugh.

I’ve come up with one more possible fix but it’s a long shot. Try installing & activating

I’ve uploaded and activated it. deactivated all other plugins and changed to 2012. Still not hyperlink possible, same error.

I was actually able to recover my backups (the hosting company helped me) and revert to WordPress 3.1.3 and hyperlinks are working fine. I did lose two posts and a draft, but managed to reclaim 3+ months of SEO work – yay! However, I do NOT want to update to 3.3.1 because the compatibility with many of my plug-ins is not guaranteed.
How do you suggest I proceed?

Glad to hear that things are working again but I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to WordPress 3.2 and then 3.3.1 asap. As the situation currently stands, you are running a high risk of the site being hacked. Staying a few versions behind is just about the worst thing you can do. Just remember to:

    – switch to the default theme
    – deactivate all plugins
    – backup your database

before you being. And repeat the database backup after each successful upgrade.

There are list of known incompatible plugins in https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/troubleshooting-wordpress-33-master-list if that helps.

OK, great. Thank you. I have found the log of previous versions on Codex, but am unable to find a download other than for 3.3.1 Where can I download WP 3.2?
