• Have tried loading the pdf as a new media and inserting as a block into the page but it just comes up as a Caption Block, which was blank.

It did load at one point but removed everything that was already on the page.

I need a simple answer as I am very new to all of this.

  • PDF files are treated like images, in that you can upload them and attach them to a post. But images are a basic HTML tag, so the file is displayed inline. PDF files are not. To display it inline, it must be manipulated in some way, because it can contain text with formatting and images, etc.
You can put a link to a PDF file.
You can use a plugin to show PDF files inline.

Is one of these plugins better than others?

“Better” is a relative term. You will have to judge according to your needs, and how it integrates with your site.

Ok, I have installed and activated PDF Embedder. I have added the pdf into New Media and it shows up in the library but when I go into pages and put a block in and go to library, the pdf isn’t there and when I try upload it it doesn’t appear in the library ‘pictures’ but is there in the top right hand corner. So I selected it and the following message came up: This image has an empty alt attribute, its file name is HolkhamLake_August2019-1pdf

Don’t know what else to try. The file is 1.4MG if that is a problem.

I need the answer simply explained as I am very new to all of this.

To get help with a plugin, ask in the plugin’s support forum.
