Inserting feed images into wordpress media gallery?

Hey guys.

I am currently retrieving data from an online real-estate source and converting listings into wordpress posts. Some of the listings contain images and I would like to make the first image of the images array the post thumbnail; I’ve been having some trouble getting this accomplished.

Can I get some steps in the right direction, please?
