Inserting media in 2.5

I’m afraid I’m a little over my head but I’m learning…
After reinstalling 2.5 5 times I finally may have got it right because I can now see all my images in “manage media” and there is a list of them on in the “library” tab in the flash thing that comes up when you want to insert media. However, nothing happens when you click “Show”. If I right click “show” and look at the properties each image has the same link which ends with wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=43&type=image&tab=library#

All the images are in wp-content/uploads/2008/O3 and one in 04 that I was able to upload a little while ago. The old ones are showing up properly in the posts I did before upgrading and they all have permalinks that will display them separately in the blog but I can’t figure out how to insert any in a new post.
