Instagram has made some sudden changes to their API today which means that it will no longer be possible to display user feeds from other Instagram accounts. You can display your own feed but not those of other users. You can only display the user feed of the account which is associated with your Access Token. It is no longer possible to display someone else’s feed using your own Access Token.

Instagram gave no warning for the sudden changes unfortunately. Please see this post for more information: https://smashballoon.com/instagram-api-changes-april-4-2018/ We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration caused by this unforeseen change.

  • Hello, this is all great info, thank you! I used it to have 2 different accounts on the same page, and it is now displaying the posts from both of them; however, it is using the name of the first account (and linking to follow the first account) @thedishstance, for both. One should be @thedishstance and the 2nd @jessicafradonophoto. Here is the link to the page: https://www.thedishstance.com/social

    Hey thedishstance,

Were you able to fix the problem? It looks like it may be correct now: https://snag.gy/8wsTcZ.jpg

Let me know if you need more help!

    Hey Craig,

So random, I messed with it a bunch and it wasn’t changing but I left it alone for 24 hours and it seems to have fixed itself. Maybe it was a cacheing issue!

Thanks for the response and I’m just happy it’s fixed ??

It definitely could be. Glad it’s working now!

I’ve only just set up wordpress to start a cosplay blog and the theme I chose came with a nice footer that is supposed to show an Instagram feed. This is very handy because I can connect my Instagram account which I already use for cosplay, however, I can’t get it to work. It merely shows

    “Unable to show Instagram photos
    Instagram Feed Error
No longer possible to display this feed”

I’ve read that you can’t link accounts you don’t own, but this one is definitely mine and I’ve used both the button and the alternative access token. What am I doing wrong?

    Hey dreameater1988,

It looks like you may have switched to another plugin. Did you still want to try using Instagram Feed? I can definitely take a look if so!

    Hi,
We have athletes that would like to allow us to display their public feed on our website.

    How do we proceed? Thanks

    Hey ochope,

We have a tool to connect Instagram accounts which will allow you to display feeds from other users. You will either need your atheletes to retrieve tokens from this page: https://smashballoon.com/instagram-feed/token/

Or you will need to log in to their Instagram accounts and retrieve tokens that way.

    Hopefully this helps!

The API change document says “to read a user’s own profile info and media [will be deprecated] in early 2020”. Won’t that render this plugin entirely useless? If so then I should probably avoid integrating w/ Instagram all together.

    Hey mitchtalmadge,

It looks like Instagram’s API is going to switch over to focus on “business” accounts. So if you would like to continue to display your own images and profile information, you’ll just need to change your Instagram account to a “business” account. Our plugin is already in the process of using this new API and we will transition our users slowly to avoid any downtime.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

    – Craig

Thanks Craig, that was very helpful.
