Instagram videos don’t play in-page

  • When I embed an Instagram video in a post, the video doesn’t play in the page when clicked. Instead, clicking the “play” icon in the video loads the video’s page at Instagram in a new window.

    This seems to affect all the Instagram videos on my website, including the URL provided with this message. I’ve tested this in Chrome (Chrome OS and Android) and Firefox (Android) and it is the same in all platforms.

    That’s the behaviour of Instagram, right? Not something you will have control over. Maybe Instagram used to work in page, but they can change their behaviour at any time.

    I had considered that might be the cause. If other websites are experiencing the same behavior then that would be the best explanation.

    I’m also going to try disabling some plugins to see if that changes the behavior on my site.
