• When I click on “appearance” then “theme” and there is no install or upload option next to “manage theme”. I have been trying to figure out how to use a theme purchased from themeforest for 2 days now. Please help!!!!

  • Hi Kate,

Is your WordPress site on WordPress.com? If so, you cannot install 3rd party themes on WordPress.com

In order to use 3rd party themes and/or plugins with WordPress, you need to use the self-hosted version that is available on www.ads-software.com for download. This version is more complicated to get setup, though many web hosting companies actually offer a one-click install for WordPress, but it is infinitely customisable.

    Japh,
Thank you so much for your quick response! I purchased my domain name through wordpress.com, (www.kateharestudio.com) and opened a bluehost account and downloaded wordpress onto it. My new theme and wordpress are installed but I don’t know who to install the them onto my website. I want to take advantage of the customizable aspect of word press but am totally stuck. (I have a feeling I am missing something quite simple….?)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Kate, if you have a registered domain (kateharestudio.com) you should be able to change it’s DNS information to the name servers for BlueHost. Then you can configure the domain to work with your WordPress install on BlueHost.

Unfortunately, I’ve never bought a domain through WordPress.com, so I’m not certain of the precise steps you’d need to take, sorry.

Essentially, your site is now on BlueHost with your fresh install of WordPress and the theme. You just need to get your domain to point there instead of WordPress.com
