• I am trying to install WP1.2.1 on my Win98 box. I had and older version (I think it was 1.2) running without any useful blogdata in the db. So, before upgrading I dropped the WP database, and am trying to install the new version of WP.
When go to the install.php I’m getting the Error establishing a database connection! error. I’m able to connect to the db from the command prompt but WP doesn’t seem to be able to connect.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you sure that the settings you entered into wp-config are correct?

Yes, the username/password, db, and host are all confirmed to be correct. Could there be any other causes?

Ok. Restarted MySQL and the connection was made successfully. But in the installation process (step 3) I see several errors similar to:
Database error: [Access denied for user: ‘wpweb’@’localhost’ to database ‘wordpress’]
ALTER TABLE wp_categories ADD category_nicename VARCHAR(200) NOT NULL
But in the end it says:
    User setup successful!
Now you can log in with the login “admin” and password “*******”.
    Is this normal?

I think the last error I wrote about was because the db user wasn’t granted ALTER permission. Giving alter permission solved the error listing.
Things seem to be working fine. The only problem is that the “side admin” cannot logout. Whenever I try to log out the site admin, the page goes to “compose” page again ??

Cookies, cookies, cookies ?? Try to clear them all, and try again ??
Btw, any admin reading that: make, somewhere (I could not find one) a liste of all tables + tables columns so that people with error during install can compare with what came in their installs ?
