• After installing wordpress my root website shows up as:

    Index Of:

    And lists all files/folders here.

My main website page – index.html – was installed into a file directory here: URL.com/public_html/

So I installed wordpress under the / directory AND the public_html/ directory because I wasn’t sure which was right.

When I go to URL.com/wp-admin/ I can see my dashboard. But when I click on the “View site” button where the default template should be, I’m back to:

    Index Of:

    And lists all files/folders here.

    What am I doing wrong?

    TIA

    Joan

  • Couple of things. /public_html/ is typically your webroot on a Linux server. I would remove the files from the directory above it as the wp-config.php files may interfere with each other. Also make sure you .htacess is writable by wordpress i.e. chmod 777

    Got it figured out.

For those of you who have a similar problem:

    1) Only install WP in ONE location (one directory)
    2) Install it where your index.html file would go
    3) Make sure the files/folders are not in a parent folder (i.e. wordpress)

    Off to play now.
