install crash site

hello, running a new fresh site. wp 4.5.3. when i install the plugin i get:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /var/www/…/wp-content/plugins/yith-woocommerce-membership/includes/class.yith-wcmbs-membership-helper.php on line 202
file path has been redacted.
only option to regain use of the site is delete the plugin.
I had such high hopes for this…
