There isn’t a step-by-step guide per se. The plugin installation instructions outline how to set up the plugin and get it working which it sounds like you’ve done.
Making your form “look” good can be simple – it just works, to fairly complex – yikes, it looks terrible. Where your form lands on this scale is largely due to how your theme is set up and there are about a million ways to build a theme.
Unfortunately there isn’t a “one size fits all” recipe for making your form look good. A lot of it is trial and error and a tool like FireBug, with it’s ability to modify or insert CSS, is invaluable.
If you look through the support forum there are quite a few queries regarding the required asterisk appearing below the label instead of adjacent to it. This is probably the most common support request I see and the answer isn’t always the same but does usually involve setting the block to display:inline. But the CSS selectors are usually different.
