I’m trying to install an update of my theme, X
As advised, I deleted the original and am attempting to upload the zipped updated theme but I get the message ‘Are you sure you want to do this? Try again’
I now have a broken child and cannot upload the updated version of the theme.
    Please help

do you have a backup copy of the child theme files?
can you access your child theme folder via FTP?

maybe there was a corruption in the upload process.

what theme is currently active on your website?
can you upload any other .zip file of a theme?

Thanks for trying to help, contentiskey
I’m a bit of a muppet but here goes:
    1. Yes, I have everything backed up; I use Duplicator
    2. Umm, I don’t know what ‘via FTP’ means, I’m sorry
    3. Possibly
    4. X-theme is active – the files are obviously all still intact over at Bluehost
    5. Yes. I’ve just downloaded a free parallax theme and uploaded it into WordPress.
I guess this means the fault lies with the Themeco download!

WordPress won’t allow me to reinstall the original version of this theme – I’ve contacted Themeco to see if they can help

glad to hear you have a path for resolution.
bluehost can help you with getting set up with FTP access.
FTP access is VERY HANDY when you have strange issues with themes+plugins.

glad to hear you have backup and are using a child theme!!!

Download an FTP client like FILEZILLA onto the computer you use primarily when working on your website. https://filezilla-project.org/
Talk to bluehost about the exact FTP credentials you need to connect filezilla to your website.
Warning: FTP access can look REALLY WEIRD when you start using it. It is a worthwhile thing to explore and learn. Can save time and stress in the future if you are in charge of managing website.

Thanks again – that all looks really helpful and I’ve saved it for later on. I’ve worked out that the problem does, indeed, lie with Themeco – their updates are not WordPress so I’ve gone back to them.

I appreciate your taking the time to help out a newbie

    Kind regards

    Karen
