• I was using the automatic update to 3.0.5 and it didn’t complete. Now all I can get is the message “Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”

I can’t get into my blog or the admin area.

    What do I do please?

  • look in the wordpress root for a .maintenance file and delete it

    I’m having the same problem.

Where is the .maintenance file located exactly? I can’t find it in the wp-admin folder or anywhere else.

    Thanks,

    Steve

I just accessed my admin area and WordPress said my database needed upgrading, so I clicked upgrade and it worked, it appears to be fixed. I can access my blog as well.

the .maintenance file is not in /wp-admin it is in the root folder. Files that begin with a . are hidden files, make sure that you use ls -a when browsing via ssh, or turn on ‘show hidden files’ with your FTP client.

Mine seemed to fix itself after about 15-20 minutes but still needs the update. I’m hesitant to attempt it again.
