    Hello –

I am installing on shared host (host gator) with Fantastico. I have tried several times into a directory – also on the root. When I attempt to see the blog I simply see the Directory Tree. I am expecting to see the default template.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Try adding the following to the top of the .htaccess file in your root folder:

    Options -Indexes
    DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm

    Thanks emsi !

Hostgator was unable to explaing why Fantastico did not add the option to search for Index.php automatically……said ‘never seen that before” but
I had installed and uninstalled and reinstalled 3 directories and the root itself before posting here…

Summary: Your solution was correct. Hope it helps anyone else that encounters same. Only seeing the Directory Tree after Install via Fantastico – check the .htaccess files. See esmi above!

    Much appreciated.

    THANK YOU

I use to be with host gator and that happened every time. After every install I had to put a htaccess file with above info.

Finally contacted tech support and she fixed it permanently for me. I am now with a different host and do not have that problem. It is their problem and some of their techies know how to go in and rewrite code for you so you won’t have to do it every time. I went through the chat.

I hope this can help save you the hassle I know you are going through.
