Install WordPress in root directory or named directory?
-
On the first WordPress installation screen, it asks whether I want to install it in the root directory or a named directory. I registered and hosted a domain name yesterday. I want to begin with my blog and build it out to a website later. From what I have gathered by looking at other blogs attached to websites, the path should ultimately show as https://www.mydomainname/blog.
So my question is: On that first installation screen, should I leave the field blank to install in the root, or should I fill the blank with the word “blog” minus the quotation marks of course?
I’m quite sure that this is a terribly elementary question. The linked path to my blog can probably be specified later. However, experience has taught me (particulary when it comes to this technology) that I am better off not to make any seemingly simple assumptions.
Thanks for helping. /Stephen
