• I am new to WordPress and am trying to set up a website. I have a domain, I have created a database. My host is TierraNet through Grassroots.org. I followed their installation directions (very similar to the 5 minute one Word Press has). Per their instruction, I uploaded WordPress through Filezilla into the ht docs directory. I renamed the wp-config-sample.php file. My problem is I cannot find the file now, so I am unable to open it and fill in the database info (which I have). Any idea what to do next? Please keep in mind I am very new and may not understand very technical terms.

    Thank you!

    Thanks for your reply.

The problem is I cannot locate the file.

Yes, exactly. wp-config.php.file Only now I cannot find it!

it should be in where you uploaded your wordpress if is not there you can always upload wp-config-sample.php again.
When open your root folder you see three folders and wp- files should be among them files.

I have now located the file, but don’t know how to edit it with my info. They have a text editor called “Webby”, but I can’t figure out how to use it.

just rename the file back to wp-config-sample.php and then enter your url in address bar in browser should open install script

    Thanks for your help.

THESE ARE THE DIRECTIONS I HAVE TRIED TO FOLLOW:
Open wp-config.php in a text editor and fill in your database details as explained in Editing wp-config.php to generate and use your secret key password. I never got a secret password.

    6. Run the WordPress installation script by accessing wp-admin/install.php in a web browser.

If you installed the WordPress in the htdocs/ directory, you should visit: https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php

I used this one twice, but got error message both times. Do you just open another browser window? That’s what I did, but I don’t really understand this.

    WordPress should then be installed!

I don’t understand. Why would I rename the file after they made such a big deal about saying it had to be renamed? I edited the config-php file, but don’t understand about th secret key password. What is that?

Tried what you suggested. Error message – requested url not found on server

I know they told you to rename wp-config-sample.php but if you run the inatall script then wp-config.php file will created for you.

If you have your wordpress files in htdocs then you should not have problem opening you install program by going to https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php
Recheck if you have all files folders from fresh download.

    I am NEW to wordpress

    Thank you govpatel

That is what I have been trying to do. I get this message:
The requested URL /wp-admin/install.php was not found on this server.

And how would I know if I have all file folders? If I do a fresh download, do I have to go through all the steps again?

Check with your host if the domain name is configured right and if you have right permissions to files and folders

What is your url post here

I am not sure what you mean by “What is your url post here”

the url I am trying to activate is https://www.homarenterprises.com
