Installation across two domains

  • Is there a way of setting up WordPress with the executables on one domain and the database is on another?

    I want to set up a charity website on their .org domain. Their webhost doesn’t provide database functions. Is there a way of installing WordPress on their server?

    Would it be practical to have a database on a different domain? Can I change some configuration files to point to a database elsewhere?

  • It can be done but it is usually more practical to have the database if not on the same server atleast in the same datacenter. Also another issue you might run into is if the .org host doesn’t allow their webservers to iniate outbound connections (many don’t). You might want to find another host that has want you need, and since it is a charity you might could get a break on price as well.
