With all other plugins inactive, I got this error when trying to install nextgen via the WP site:

    Could not copy file. nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_addgallery_page/static/plupload-2.1.1/jquery.plupload.queue/jquery.plupload.queue.min.js

FYI, the Nextcellent plugin installs okay, but I’d like to use yours. By the way, this happened on a localhost installation. There’s no shortage of resources on the laptop.

@billhi – Usually this message, when using the WordPress UI to install a plugin, indicates the file exists in that location already. You may just need to completely clear the folder and files under plugins/nextgen-gallery/ manually before trying to install/update.

    Thanks!

Thank you for the quick reply. Presently, there’s not even a nextgen-gallery folder. I tried a manual install and got this:

The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini

    That file has this: upload_max_filesize = 2M
I’ve tried changing this to 20M, but it’s reset on restart. I guess there’s a trick…a setting elsewhere.

@billhi – This looks like a server setting issue you may need to address with your web hosting service to correct.

I’m using localhost. I managed to get upload_max_filesize up to 100M but still got an error. May go back to DesktopServer for my localhost environment with which I’ve had no problems. It’s probably not a photocrati issue, so I’ll close this. It’s still odd that nextcellent loads okay. I appreciate your responsiveness.

@billhi – I’m not familiar with “DesktopServer” but if that was a known entity that worked without issue it may be a good place to re-start from.

Personally when developing locally I go with a simple XAMPP install (when I worked on Windows OS) or MAMP set to Apache defaults (under Max OS X which I currently use). Neither of those local environments ever interfered with my work/testing.

Bill, did you ever get this resolved? I have the exact same issue…DesktopServer, trying to upgrade an old version of NextgenGallery.

I didn’t resolve it, Fritz. I had to go in a different direction for other reasons. BTW, Cais, DesktopServer is based on xampp; it simplifies WordPress admin.

@billhi – Thanks for the reference … personally, when I used a PC I tended to opt to go with XAMPP and never had any issues with NextGEN Gallery locally.

    Thanks for the update.
