Installation of Version 3.01 impossible, plugin disappeared

    Dear Event Organizer team,

    I tried to update the last version of Event Organizer (3.01) and it resulted in a serious bug.

    1) After the installation process, the following message displayed
    Extension en cours d’installation : Event Organiser 3.0.1
    Téléchargement de l’archive d’installation depuis https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/event-organiser.3.0.1.zip…
    Décompression de l’archive de l’extension…
    Installation de l’extension…
    Le dossier de destination existe déjà. /mnt/webw/a0/50/53990550/htdocs/V0/wp-content/plugins/event-organiser/
    L’installation de l’extension a échoué.

    2) As a consequence, the plugin totally disappeared from my WordPress site (frontoffice), but also in the plugin list (backoffice).

    I had scores of past events that are not showing anymore and the Events page is empty now.

    Could you please tell me what happenned with this new update of the plugin and how I could fix it (I’m not a very technical guy) ?

    PS1: I am using WordPress version 4.4.2–fr_FR with Customizer theme.
    PS2: I have also the Event Organiser Posterboard installed. This one shows in my plugin list.

    Hi,

    This is not a bug with Event Organiser: the install/update process is all handled by WordPress. It appears that you can’t update/install the plug-in because the the event-organiser directory already exists in wp-content/plugins.

    I suspect, that WordPress doesn’t have read access on that directory (otherwise the plug-in would appear in your Plug-ins page). Or, it may be that the WordPress didn’t fully remove the plug-in when updating – leaving residual files to prevent the new version from being installed but not to actual load the plugin.

    I recommend you delete the event-organiser directory and try again. Your events will still be in the database, and you shouldn’t have lost any data. Regardless, I’d strongly encourage you to back up your database before performing any update.

    Hi Stephen,

    thanks for your answer and tips. I’ll try to proceed the way you suggest. What is weird is that when I updated with 3.00 version there were no issues.

    1) So, I checked the read access and nothing was wrong with the folder rights. Event Organiser folder has all the necessary rights (like all other folders cmpdfe 0755)

    2) I deleted the folder as you recommended and reinstalled the plugin. Then activated it.

    3) It seems to work with all the previous data in place. I’ll have a check on the site to see whether everything is okay and there are no side effects.

    Anyway, strange phenomenon! I don’t understand why it refused to update normally.
