• I tried to install wordpress on Network Solutions remote server (Unix/mysql): setup data base; uploaded all wordpress files w/wp-config.php filled in. Got “Error establishing a database connection” browser message when I went to URL. Deleted wp-config.php to force worpress to create a configuration file. Got the wordpress “create a configuration file” page and filled in all Network Solutions db info and got another “Error establishing a database connection.” (this time in the wordpress window). Tried a local install, on windows vista, with xampp using information that I found on this page: https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/xampp/ that suggested a blank password in the wp-config.php setup (the local db setup in phpmyadmin didn’t ask for a password so this was a no brainer)… bingo. I had a blog up in less then a minute. Is this normal?; don’t you want a db password?; Network Solutions will not allow me to setup a db without a password; any suggestions?

    Problem Solved!

Network Solutions does not allow any control to create original db info within phpmyadmin. At the top of phpmyadmin it only says “localhost”; no other information given. Upon closer examination, Network Solutions does indeed assign a unique server name upon the creation of a db. Everything is now working. Thank you.

PS: This is actually a server alias that is assigned at the time the db is create, so the user needs to be aware that this is happening ??
