  • You have odne the file uploading the right way, but I’m guessing that your host left out one part that’s important becaue they thought that people would realise it for themsleves, but most won’t.

You are getting the 404 not found because you don’t need the /htdocs/ folder in your URL. Just go to your main domain name, and you’re greeted with the starting installation page.

The /htdocs/ folder in the hosting server is where the publicly-available files are held, so you don’t need to reference this in your URL at any time.

When I go to the main domain name, I get the holder page.

That’s normalyl because the hosting company includes an index.htm or index.html file in the root dirctory. If you delete that file (do not delete the index.php file) then you’ll see your WordPress site start right up.

But… I have to say that I’m seeing the installation page at the URL that you’ve given and not the default page. How long ago did you update the nameserver settings for the domain? If it was only a short time (a few hours) then it will need more time to propegate. It can take up to 72 hours for the domain name to resolve to a new server when you change the DNS settings.

You’re seeing it? Okay, then I guess I’ll be patient and see if it comes up tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
