Installation problems

I am having a nightmare here. I have installed many joomla sites without problems but thought it was time to try wordpress.
OK, all config.php altered and ftp’d, database set up ok, once i go to install page I get this:
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /homepages/45/d302974547/htdocs/londonchairs/wp-config.php:1) in /homepages/45/d302974547/htdocs/londonchairs/wp-admin/install.php on line 54

I have had a look through the common problems and checked no whitespace before <?php or after ?> I am using notepad in ansi format.

Can anyone help please?
