• I hope I can explain my problem, I’m not a computer wizard (sometimes I use the wrong words to describe something without knowing it).
I have installed WordPress through the controlpanel of our webhost with the Softaculous protocol.
Now our current website is written in html, not a WordPress site.
What I want to do is create a new WordPress site, while our current site stays public and visible (with our domain as Url).
So I installed WordPress in a folder: public_html/test
The public_html folder is where I upload all files and where our current .access and index.php are located, so I guess that is the right folder to create the test folder in.
I can log in on the Admin Url to work on the WordPress site but when I press ‘show site’ to view what I have worked on, I get directed to ourdomain/test
This seems logical but what I get to see is the startpage of our current (html) site.
How come I don’t see a new WordPress site?

  • Site url?

    https://www.kelstone.be
    the folder
    https://www.kelstone.be/public_html/test
    is username and password protected
Somebody told me to do this so that nobody can see the WordPress site till he is properly finished.
I guess I can undo that if necessary.

We need to be able to see the site in question.

I undid the protection of the folder ‘test’
You should be able to see it.

I cannot find any sign of WordPress at that url.

Me neither, that is the problem Iguess.
When I open our folders with Filezilla, I clearly see all the files that WordPress has installed in that folder.
Is there some kind of file that I need to change with notepad for instance to activate WordPress.
I followed step by step the Softaculous protocol and receive a mail from our websitehost with our login, database login, passwords etc.
What is happening, what do I do wrong?

    Hi,

    I am from Softaculous team.

WordPress is installed on your domain in the sub directory “test” :
    https://kelstone.be/test/wp-login.php

But the reason why you are unable to view the site is due to restriction in .htaccess folder which is redirecting you to the main domain.

Please modify the .htaccess in the root directory to allow access to the directory test.
