• So I have the domain www.(domainname).com

I installed wordpress to (domainname).com instead of www.(domainname).com

When I type in www.(domainname).com it takes me to (domainname).com

Will this hurt me in terms of SEO? It seems to redirect automatically, I haven’t done anything to make it take visitors to the non-www address even when you type in the www.

Thanks for the clarification, I’m just a little confused.

  • No, there is no differnce at all between using www. and not using it. originally the www prefix was used as a “placeholder” sort of thing for a public site where the private intranet sort of site was at the non-www URL. Things have thankfully changed now and that’s pretty much never the case thanks to people not knowing and understanding the difference so both have become the default for any public site out there.
