Installed WP from my web host and getting 404 errors – need to add domain?
-
Hi
I am new to wordpress and this is my first stab at designing a website – which is for a friend.
I have run into many problems and and even done a full uninstall and reinstall – fun.
My working process
1.I installed WP from my web host which is westhost using softaculous install.
2. I designed my site creating pages the normal way.
3. When I then go to the domain which I have registered in westhost which is zasmarmagic.com I get a 404 error and this happens on all the pages I have setup, which you can click in the menu on the page – I can see all the CSS styling I have implemented but no content from the page.
4. I have checked my database and everything seems to be linking correctly.
5. I want to attach my domain to my pages so the site can be viewed but I am unsure how to do this.
Things I have done:
I have fiddled around with the Premalinks I have set them to default and saved changes. Not sure this is correct as my Premalink for the homepage is: https://zasmarmagic.com/?page_id=5 but when you click on the homepage link in the menu you get the URL: https://zasmarmagic.com/home-page/ not even sure how this link has been created.I have setup mutlisite on the WP installation but I don’t think this is the way forward as I have to add something to the site address and this totally changes the domain name and also this sets up a whole new dashboard.
Am I missing something?
Is there something I have to do to match the site to the domain – is this not done automatically when I installed WP from the CPanel?
I find it strange I can see some of the styling but the pages won’t display and previously I couldn’t access the domain at all until I did the fresh install.
Sorry for the long post just tried to get everything in here as I really am stuck. ?? Thanks for any help.
