Installing a plugin – "Could not create directory" error

  • Hi all,

    Recently some of the plugins on my website https://oakleighmanor.com have stopped working. I had the ‘All in One SEO’ plugin used to rewrite title tags, metedescriptions, etc but it has stopped working for some reason…

    I have tried to install the Yoast SEO plugin, but am getting the following error;

    “Installing Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast 1.6

    Downloading install package from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/wordpress-seo.1.6.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Could not create directory.”

    The theme used on the site isn’t fully compatible with the new WordPress but I wouldn’t have thought that would effect plugin installation?

    The site ranks extremely well and is very important to the business, we need to fix this asap so any help would be much appreciated.

    Edit: I have also tried to add the plugin via FTP (FileZilla) but that didn’t work either ; “Response: 553 Could not create file.
    Error: Critical file transfer error” 154 files failed to transfer..
