Installing another instance of wordpress on my server

  • Hello. I am hosting my site on Hostgator. I would like to experiment with my site without jeopardizing my active site. Can I install another instance of WordPress on the same host to experiment with other WP themes, adding pages, etc without affecting the active site? How can I do that? Thanks!

  • Yes, you can do that.
    Via FTP, just go to your site and create a folder called wp, test, or whatever you want and install WordPress in there.

    I do this all the time for my clients.
    I have a the url test.bluelimemedia.com
    and have set up WP in folders, so that I have test.bluelimemedia.com/client1, test.bluelimemedia.com/client2, etc..
