Installing Child theme on an existing blog

    I have a small blog with a few blog posts, I’d like to add the video widget to my blog posts as stated in here

    As per this article, I need to have a child theme set up for including this widget. But I am currently running on the normal parent only set up.

    What is the best way to install a child theme without breaking the site?
    1) Through plugin
    2) Or directly uploading the child theme available in Github.

    And what all things should I do to make sure the change won’t affect my website.
